This expression utilizes two proprietary stave profiles—SE4 and PR5—developed in collaboration with Independent Stave Company to amplify the rich vanilla and caramel notes inherent in Maker’s Mark bourbon. The SE4 staves are made from virgin French oak, convection cooked at medium heat with a short toast period, contributing to the caramel flavors. The PR5 staves are made from virgin American oak, cooked at low heat over an extended period to enhance vanilla notes. Bottled at cask strength, 110.8 proof (55.4% ABV), this bourbon offers a nose of heavy vanilla with spiced caramel, a palate reminiscent of butter pecan ice cream with creamy butter notes, dry spice, and caramelized sweetness, leading to a long, round, and dry finish.
